A Talk on Translation in the AI Age

The 15th Engaging With Vietnam conference will be held in collaboration with the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts, Vietnam National University Hanoi (SIS-VNU Hanoi) on 12-16 December 2025. The theme of the conference is “Knowledge Production, Education, Creative Industries, Vietnam, and the World.” (Kiến Tạo Tri Thức, Giáo Dục, Công Nghiệp Sáng Tạo, Việt Nam, và Thế Giới)

To help us all start thinking about this theme, we recorded a fascinating conversation between translator Thảo Minh and writer and educator Nguyễn Phương Thảo about the future of the art/skill of translation in the AI age. Thảo Minh has translated numerous books, and has first-hand insights on the ways in which AI is transforming the translation process, as well as of its strengths and limits. We look forward to discussing this and other topics further at the conference.
